On the night of January 19, 2024, tragedy struck in the Curtis Bay neighborhood of Baltimore, Maryland, claiming the life of 39-year-old Malachi Carter-Bey. A Black male, Carter-Bey was found in the 4300 block of Pennington Avenue suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The incident, which occurred at approximately 10:22 p.m., also resulted in the death of a 60-year-old woman, Mary Schuman, who was discovered at the same location with similar fatal injuries.
Emergency medical personnel
were dispatched to the scene, but the wounds sustained by both Carter-Bey and Schuman were too severe. Both individuals were pronounced deceased at the location of the shooting. The Baltimore Police Department promptly opened a homicide investigation into the double slaying that shocked the community.
Initial reports from law enforcement officials confirmed that they were investigating the incident as a double homicide and urged anyone with information to come forward to assist in their inquiries.
