In December 2022, Latrina Gilchrist, a 50-year-old woman from Detroit, Michigan, was found deceased in her Palmer Park apartment. The discovery was made on December 8th when police conducted a welfare check after she failed to show up for work. An investigation revealed that she had been shot multiple times. Her death occurred just two days after she celebrated her 50th birthday.
The primary suspect in her death was identified as her long-term boyfriend, with whom she had been in a
relationship for about a decade. Law enforcement located him at a restaurant on Detroit's east side. As police prepared to arrest him, the suspect shot himself in the head in an apparent suicide attempt. He survived the self-inflicted gunshot wound and was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.
Due to his medical state, the suspect had not been formally charged in connection with Gilchrist's death, and his name was not immediately released by authorities. Gilchrist's children described their mother as a loving and supportive person who had done a great deal to help her boyfriend. The family expressed their profound grief and devastation over her violent death.
