In the early hours of March 28, 2024, the events that would lead to the death of 47-year-old David Winchester Jr. began to unfold. A male resident of Baltimore, Winchester was abducted from the city and taken to Annapolis. Later that morning, at approximately 8:30 a.m., his body was discovered in a wooded area near the track and field of Wiley H. Bates Middle School on Spa Road.
The cause of his death was determined to be two gunshot wounds to the back of his head, leading the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to rule it a homicide.
The investigation into Winchester's death quickly connected his abduction to a harrowing home invasion at his mother's residence in Southwest Baltimore. Two men had forced their way into the home, demanding money and claiming they were holding Winchester. During the incident, one of the intruders chased Winchester's sister upstairs and fired a gun into the bedroom where she had locked herself. Ultimately, the assailants fled without any money, taking Winchester with them in a blue Mitsubishi Eclipse.
Authorities identified three suspects from Baltimore in connection with the kidnapping and murder: Marquis Mayo, 35; Jamar Fincher, 37; and Monae Fincher, 36. All three were arrested and charged with first-degree murder and related offenses. Investigators learned that Monae Fincher was the owner of the vehicle used in the abduction and the ex-wife of Jamar Fincher. A confidential source also provided information that implicated Mayo in the killing.
In February 2025, a jury found Marquis Mayo guilty of first-degree murder, kidnapping, and a handgun charge in what prosecutors described as an 'execution-style murder'. His sentencing was scheduled for April of the same year. The trials for Jamar Fincher and Monae Fincher were slated to take place later in 2025. The violent end to David Winchester Jr.'s life was part of a tragic series of events that began with a kidnapping and armed home invasion, ultimately leaving a family to mourn their loss.
