Anibal Suazo, an 18-year-old Hispanic male, was fatally shot on the evening of September 8, 2024, inside a laundromat in Edmonston, Maryland, an area near Hyattsville. The incident unfolded around 6:00 p.m. in the 4700 block of Kenilworth Avenue, where two individuals reportedly targeted Suazo. The ensuing altercation quickly escalated from a physical assault to a shootout.
According to police, the two suspects, who were known to Suazo, initiated the confrontation by physically attacking
him. During the assault, one of the suspects drew a weapon and opened fire, striking both Suazo and an adult female who was also present in the laundromat. In the midst of the attack, Suazo managed to return fire. Despite his efforts to defend himself, Suazo sustained fatal gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. The female victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
The investigation led to the swift identification and apprehension of two suspects. One of the alleged assailants, identified as 20-year-old Alex Delgado of Silver Spring, was found at the scene with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds he sustained during the exchange. The second suspect, a 17-year-old male from New Carrollton, fled the laundromat in a vehicle. A pursuit involving the Prince George's County Police Department's helicopter ensued, leading to his capture shortly after the incident.
Both Alex Delgado and the 17-year-old suspect were charged with first-degree murder and other related offenses. Authorities announced that the 17-year-old would be charged and tried as an adult in connection with the death of Anibal Suazo. The motive for the fatal confrontation remains under investigation, though it is believed to have stemmed from a pre-existing dispute between the suspects and the victim. Two firearms were recovered from the scene of the shooting.
