On the night of December 6, 2019, Oscar Alaniz-Gurdian, a 26-year-old male from Hyattsville, Maryland, was fatally shot in Landover. The incident occurred at approximately 10:30 p.m. in the 2400 block of Pinebrook Avenue. Officers from the Prince George's County Police and Maryland-National Capital Park Police responded to a report of a shooting and found Alaniz-Gurdian outside with multiple gunshot wounds.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
An investigation revealed that Alaniz-Gurdian was not the intended target of the shooting. He was an innocent bystander caught in the crossfire of an armed robbery. The suspects were in the process of robbing another individual during a drug transaction when they shot and killed Alaniz-Gurdian. The intended victim of the robbery was not harmed.
Prince George's County police arrested five suspects in connection with the homicide. The individuals taken into custody were 18-year-old Denilso Diaz Salamanca, 19-year-old Williamz Diaz Salamanca, 17-year-old Elda Benavides, 18-year-old Anthony Gomez-Marin, and 21-year-old Cristian Mendez. All five suspects faced charges of first-degree murder, second-degree murder, armed robbery, and other related offenses. Benavides, although a minor, was charged as an adult. Following their arrests, all suspects were held without bond.
