In the evening hours of a November day, a burst of gunfire shattered the night's quiet in a New Carrollton, Maryland, apartment complex. When police arrived at the scene in the 5300 block of 85th Avenue, they found a young man suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but his life could not be saved. The victim was identified as 24-year-old Desmond Burns, a male resident of the area.
