On March 19, 2022, Delonte Hicks, a 29-year-old male tow truck driver from Washington, D.C., was fatally shot in a road rage incident in Prince George's County, Maryland. The tragic event unfolded at approximately 4:45 p.m. as Hicks was driving his tow truck eastbound on Route 50 at Veterans Parkway. An altercation is believed to have occurred between Hicks and the driver of another vehicle.
The suspect, driving what authorities believe to be a black or gray 2018 or 2019 Hyundai Sonata,
pulled alongside Hicks's tow truck. Following a verbal exchange, the unidentified driver brandished a weapon and fired multiple shots into Hicks's vehicle, striking him. The gunman then fled the scene, continuing eastbound on Route 50. Hicks was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. An autopsy later confirmed that his death was a homicide resulting from multiple gunshot wounds.
Maryland State Police, with assistance from the Prince George's County Police Department, launched an investigation into the homicide. Investigators have released video footage from a camera inside the tow truck that captured the incident, as well as images of the suspect and the suspect's vehicle, in an effort to identify the person responsible. Despite these efforts and a reward of $30,000 offered by the FBI and Maryland State Police for information leading to an arrest and conviction, the gunman remains at large. The investigation into the death of Delonte Hicks is ongoing, and authorities continue to urge anyone with information to come forward.
