In the late hours of a Saturday night in Landover, Maryland, on April 18, 2020, the life of 24-year-old Pearris Clark was tragically cut short. A male victim of gun violence, he was in a parking lot on Courtney Place when shots rang out around 11:30 p.m. When Prince George's County Police officers arrived at the scene, they discovered a chaotic and violent tableau with four individuals suffering from gunshot wounds.
Pearris Clark, along with 26-year-old Eugene Deondre Jones, was pronounced dead at the location. Two other victims were transported to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries.
The investigation into the double homicide quickly began to unfold as homicide detectives worked to piece together the events that led to the deadly encounter. Investigators did not believe the shooting was a random act of violence. Their efforts soon pointed to a dispute over an illegal drug transaction as the catalyst for the fatal shootings. This breakthrough provided a motive and narrowed the focus of the investigation as authorities sought to identify those responsible for the deaths of Clark and Jones.
Within days of the incident, the Prince George's County Police Department announced a significant development in the case. On April 23, 2020, homicide detectives arrested 27-year-old Uhland Richardson of Upper Marlboro in connection with the double fatal shooting. Richardson was subsequently charged with first and second-degree murder, among other related charges. Following his arrest, he was taken into the custody of the Department of Corrections and a commissioner ordered him to be held without bond.
