Kevin Matthews, a 35-year-old man from Detroit, was killed on December 23, 2015, during an encounter with a Dearborn police officer. Matthews, who was reportedly unarmed and had a history of mental illness, was fatally shot following a foot chase that led to a physical struggle between him and the officer. According to police reports, the officer claimed that Matthews attempted to grab his weapon during the altercation, which resulted in Matthews being shot multiple times.
