Lieutenant Johnnie C. Shoates of the Detroit Police Department tragically succumbed to a gunshot wound sustained during a robbery on October 16, 1976. At the time of the incident, Shoates was off duty and waiting in line at a Church's Chicken restaurant located at 12701 Joy Road in Detroit.
