In the late summer of 2019, the life of 20-year-old Deshun Alvontae Montgomery, a Black male from Detroit, Michigan, was tragically cut short. On the morning of August 6th, his body was discovered on a street corner, bearing the brutal marks of multiple gunshot wounds. The violence inflicted upon him was so severe that his own mother initially could not recognize him, a heart-wrenching testament to the viciousness of the act.
