On February 6, 2023, Teryton Bonner, an 18-year-old from Milwaukee, was shot and killed outside a gas station near the intersection of 17th and Rogers. Police responded to reports of gunfire and found Bonner's body at the scene, along with a spent cartridge casing nearby. Surveillance footage captured the moments leading up to the shooting, showing two suspects approaching Bonner.
One suspect appeared to press a gun against Bonner's neck, leading to a brief struggle before Bonner fell to the ground.
Following the investigation, two 18-year-old men, Angel Guichardo and Elias Alvarado, were charged with felony murder in connection with Bonner's death. Alvarado remains at large, while Guichardo was arrested shortly after the incident. Evidence collected during the investigation included fingerprints from a can left at the scene, which matched Alvarado's. Witnesses also identified both suspects from surveillance footage.
Guichardo was initially held on a cash bond of $300,000 after making his first court appearance on February 17, 2023. During subsequent jail calls, he reportedly distanced himself from the crime and suggested that Alvarado was primarily responsible for the shooting. The case has highlighted ongoing concerns about youth violence and gun access in Milwaukee, prompting discussions within the community about safety measures and interventions needed to prevent similar tragedies in the future. Bonner's family expressed their grief and called for justice following this senseless act of violence.
