On the evening of May 5, 2023, Jason Patrick Pritchard, a 44-year-old White/Caucasian male, was fatally shot in what has been described as a senseless act of violence in Madison, Wisconsin. The incident occurred outside the Badger Tavern, a bar located in the southwestern part of the city. Pritchard was discovered with gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. He had reportedly stopped at the tavern to relax and was on the phone with his parents shortly before the shooting.
While talking with other patrons, he was shot at close range in the chest and died almost instantly.
The investigation into Pritchard's death led to the arrest of a suspect, Caleb DiMaggio. In late June 2023, DiMaggio was charged with first-degree intentional homicide in connection with the shooting. During a court appearance, he entered a plea of not guilty to the charge. The killing prompted community discussions about gun violence and public safety in the Madison area.
