In the summer of 2020, the life of Maurice Rashawn Bow Jr., a 24-year-old Black man from Madison, Wisconsin, was tragically cut short. On the evening of July 25th, violence erupted on Madison's west side, and Bow fell victim to a fatal shooting. The Dane County Medical Examiner's Office later confirmed that his death was a homicide, a result of the firearm injuries he sustained.
The pain of Bow's death rippled through his community and family.
Roughly ten days later, as friends and relatives gathered at Garner Park for a memorial to celebrate his life, further tragedy struck. The peaceful remembrance was shattered by the sound of gunfire, causing chaos and panic among the attendees. In the aftermath of this second burst of violence, several individuals were left with injuries. While two people were taken into custody at the scene, their arrests were not directly related to the shooting that occurred at the memorial.
In the days that followed, the Madison Police Department continued to investigate the homicide of Maurice Bow. They publicly stated that the investigation was active and ongoing. However, in the years since his death, there have been no public announcements regarding any arrests made or suspects identified in connection with his murder. The case, it appears, remains an unsolved tragedy, leaving a family to grapple with their loss in the absence of justice.
