He was pronounced dead at the scene, while she was rushed to a local hospital and then transferred out of town for advanced treatment.

According to a joint release referenced in local coverage, 37-year-old Jacob Kelly fled the house before officers arrived and, minutes later, confronted Victoria County deputies on LaValliere Street. Investigators say he attacked deputies and a K-9 before being subdued and taken into custody. Kelly was booked on charges that included assault on a public servant, interference with a police service animal, and resisting arrest; authorities then identified him as the shooter in the Laurel Avenue case and charged him with murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Two days after the shooting, the community learned that the violence had taken an even greater toll.
