On a Saturday night in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the lives of two teenage boys were tragically cut short. Fifteen-year-old Monroe Weso, a Native American male, was with his best friend, Alejandro Sanchez, also 15, on May 18, 2024, when they were both fatally shot. The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. near South 14th Street and West Halsey Avenue. One of the boys was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital in the early hours of the following morning. The two were reportedly inseparable, and their sudden deaths left both of their families devastated. Monroe was a student at West Allis Central High School and his family planned to lay him to rest on the Menominee Reservation, a place he considered home.
The investigation into the double homicide quickly led Milwaukee police to three juvenile suspects. A 13-year-old boy was taken into custody in connection with the deadly shooting. He later confessed to his involvement in what was described as a planned robbery that escalated into violence. According to the criminal complaint, the 13-year-old, along with 15-year-old Christopher Scott and another teenager, had arranged to meet Monroe and Alejandro under the pretense of a marijuana transaction. The plan, however, was to rob the two friends.
During the attempted robbery, a struggle ensued, and Christopher Scott is alleged to have opened fire, shooting both Monroe and Alejandro. The weapon used was described by the suspects as a "ghost gun." Following the shooting, the suspects reportedly tried to conceal their involvement. Surveillance footage from the area played a crucial role in identifying the individuals involved. Christopher Scott was identified in the footage by his own mother. He has since been charged with two counts of first-degree intentional homicide and armed robbery. As of late May 2024, an arrest warrant for him was active. In addition to the 13-year-old who confessed, a 16-year-old was also arrested in connection to the case, while police continued to search for a third suspect. The 13-year-old has been charged with two counts of felony murder. The case has sparked conversations within the community about youth violence and gun control as two families continue to mourn the profound loss of their young sons.
