In the spring of 2023, a violent altercation at a south Oklahoma City bar claimed the life of 29-year-old Eric Oberholtzer. On the evening of Saturday, April 1st, police were called to the Whiskey Barrel Saloon following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered a chaotic scene with multiple gunshot victims. Oberholtzer, along with two other men, Francisco Tanajara, 38, and Andrew Sump, 28, were pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident was determined to be a confrontation
between rival motorcycle clubs. Oberholtzer was identified as the Oklahoma City chapter president of the Homietos Motorcycle Club. According to court documents and surveillance footage, the conflict began when members of the Bandidos motorcycle club and their affiliates followed Oberholtzer and another Homieto, Tyler Myers, into the bar. A physical altercation quickly escalated into a gunfight involving numerous individuals.
The investigation into the deadly shootout led to several arrests. Tyler Myers, 34, a member of the Homietos, was taken into custody on a charge of first-degree murder after being treated for his own gunshot wounds. Subsequently, authorities arrested two alleged members of the Bandidos, Douglas Jacobs, 47, and Nicklus Sweet, 42. Jacobs faced charges including first-degree murder, while Sweet was charged with shooting with intent to kill, among other offenses. Court documents allege that Jacobs shot Oberholtzer as he was trying to reload his weapon.
