In the early hours of a cold January morning in Oklahoma City, the life of a young man came to a tragic and violent end. Takota Wolf Wise, a 22-year-old male of the Eastern Shoshoni Tribe, was last seen on foot around 1:30 a.m. on January 23, 2020. Later that morning, at approximately 7 a.m., a garbage truck driver made a grim discovery in a ditch near the intersection of Southwest 104th Street and Morgan Road. It was the body of Takota, who had been shot eight times.
His death was quickly ruled a homicide.
Known to his family as 'Kota,' he was remembered as a big-hearted and kind person who was full of life and fun as a child. He had been a promising football player in middle school, even catching the eye of high school coaches. However, his life took a difficult turn following the death of his father when he was just 13. The loss plunged him into a depression, and he began to struggle with drug dependency. At the time of his death, he was experiencing homelessness.
The investigation into Takota's murder has remained ongoing, a painful and unresolved chapter for his grieving family. Despite the efforts of the Oklahoma City Police Department, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, and the Bureau of Indian Affairs, no suspects have been publicly identified, and no arrests have been made in connection with his killing. His family continues to advocate for justice, left without closure in the tragic loss of their beloved son, grandson, brother, and uncle. Authorities have asked for the public's help, offering a reward for any information that might lead to an arrest and finally bring a measure of peace to his loved ones.
