In the evening hours of Monday, April 29, 2024, a burst of gunfire shattered the peace at the Midtown Park Apartments in Tulsa, Oklahoma, leaving a community in shock and a family mourning the loss of a young life. Sixteen-year-old Valin James Bell, a male, was tragically killed in what police described as a 'gun battle' that erupted in the parking lot of the complex, located near 21st and Memorial.
Another 16-year-old was also struck by the gunfire and was left in critical condition.
The violent encounter unfolded around 7 p.m., drawing a swift response from Tulsa police. Arriving at the scene, they discovered the two teenagers with gunshot wounds. Despite immediate medical attention, Valin James Bell succumbed to his injuries. In the wake of the shooting, Tulsa homicide detectives launched an intensive investigation. Their efforts quickly led to a breakthrough. An 18-year-old, Ricardo Galarza, was identified as a suspect in the fatal shooting. Galarza was subsequently arrested and booked on a murder complaint in connection with the death of Valin James Bell.
