Jalen Mack, a 22-year-old man, was arrested and charged with the murder of Kourtland McFrazier. During questioning, Mack admitted to being in the park, sitting in his truck and smoking marijuana. He also confessed to firing a gun in the direction of the apartment complex. However, he maintained that he did not intentionally shoot McFrazier. The case proceeded to trial, where the evidence and Mack's testimony were presented to a jury. After deliberation, the jury returned a verdict of not guilty of murder. While acquitted of the most serious charge, Mack did plead guilty to the possession of a firearm.
