On a late summer evening in Phoenix, Arizona, the lives of a husband and wife were irrevocably shattered. On Thursday, August 31, 2017, 45-year-old Crystal Brown, a Caucasian female, was with her husband near a transient camp located by the railroad tracks at 15th Avenue and Lincoln Street. The time was between 7:30 and 7:50 p.m. when they were suddenly confronted by three unknown young men.
The encounter quickly escalated into a robbery.
In the ensuing chaos, one of the assailants, who was armed with a handgun, fired a shot. Crystal Brown was struck by the gunfire. Emergency services were called, and police detectives arrived at the scene near 7th Avenue and Buchanan Street to find Crystal with a gunshot wound. She was rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Crystal Brown succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital. The suspects, described as three males in their late teens to early twenties, fled the scene and disappeared into the night. The Phoenix Police Department immediately launched a homicide investigation into the robbery and fatal shooting.
In the days that followed, authorities appealed to the public for any information that could lead to the identification and apprehension of the three suspects. The case was featured by Silent Witness, a program that allows citizens to provide anonymous tips to law enforcement. However, despite the release of suspect descriptions, the case grew cold. To date, there have been no arrests announced in the murder of Crystal Brown, and the case remains an open and unsolved homicide. The perpetrators who cut her life short have not been brought to justice.
