In the winter of 2022, a young Hispanic woman named Monica Alicia Yvette Hernandez, 23, was found dead in a hotel room in the Maryvale area of Phoenix, Arizona. On the morning of November 26, 2022, a maintenance employee at the hotel made the grim discovery and immediately alerted the authorities. Phoenix Police officers responded to the call and found Ms. Hernandez with a critical gunshot wound.
The initial investigation into her death quickly turned into a homicide case.
Detectives began working to piece together the events that led to the fatal shooting. In the days that followed, the Phoenix Police Department reached out to the public for assistance, hoping to identify a suspect in the tragic death of the young woman. A reward was offered for any information that could lead to an arrest and help bring closure to Monica's family and friends.
The plea for public assistance proved fruitful, and a significant breakthrough in the case came just days later. On December 1, 2022, investigators arrested 28-year-old Jesus Aguirre in connection with the murder. Aguirre was subsequently charged with first-degree murder, marking a crucial development in the ongoing investigation. The swift arrest brought a sense of relief to the community and was a testament to the diligent work of the Phoenix Police Department.
