On October 26, 2024, Paul Allgood, a 51-year-old resident of Columbus, Ohio, was fatally shot near a Kroger grocery store located in the University District. The incident occurred shortly after 2:30 PM, prompting immediate medical attention. Allgood was transported to The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 4:24 PM due to his injuries.
Following the shooting, Columbus police initiated an investigation that led to the identification of a suspect.
On October 31, 2024, Deshawn Caldwell, a 34-year-old man, was arrested by police during an unrelated incident. Prior to this arrest, an arrest warrant had been issued for Caldwell on October 27, citing a dispute between him and Allgood as a potential motive for the shooting.
Caldwell has since been indicted on multiple charges, including two counts of murder, one count of tampering with evidence, and one count of discharging a firearm on or near prohibited premises.
