Jermaine Taylor was a 31-year-old Black man from Euclid, Ohio, who was known to friends and family by the nicknames "Kwame" and "Poonie." A father to one child and a rapper, he was remembered as ambitious, giving, bold, and caring, with a goofy and funny personality and a love for kids.
On the afternoon of Sunday, November 3, 2024, police in the neighboring city of South Euclid responded to a shooting.
At approximately 12:33 p.m., officers arrived in the 4000 block of Okalona Road and found Jermaine with a single gunshot wound to his chest. He was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition but succumbed to his injuries later that day. The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office later classified his death as a suspected homicide.
At the scene of the shooting, police arrested a 30-year-old man from Cleveland. Investigators also recovered a firearm at the location. The South Euclid Police Department's investigation was assisted by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation. The incident was one of two separate shootings that occurred in the community less than ten minutes apart that day.
While an arrest was made, authorities announced that charges had not yet been filed pending the outcome of the investigation. As of November 2024, the case remained under active investigation.
