Lloyd Schwieterman, a 75-year-old man from Celina, Ohio, was found dead on April 20, 2025, at his residence on Depweg Road. Authorities from the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call at 7:44 a.m. and discovered that Schwieterman had suffered a gunshot wound. While initial observations suggested the possibility of a self-inflicted wound, investigators remained uncertain and proceeded to secure the scene for further examination.
Detectives obtained search warrants from Celina Municipal Court Judge Kathryn Speeman to conduct a thorough investigation.
To assist in processing the scene, the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office requested support from the Bureau of Criminal Identification’s crime scene unit. Additionally, the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office was tasked with performing an autopsy to determine the precise cause of death. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding Schwieterman’s passing remains ongoing, with authorities working to clarify whether foul play was involved.
Schwieterman, a white male, was a longtime resident of St. Sebastian, Ohio. He was born on September 10, 1949, in Celina to Lawrence and Leona Schwieterman. He was married to Kathy Schwieterman and had four children. Throughout his life, he was actively involved in his community, serving as a member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church and participating in various organizations, including the American Legion Post 571 and the NRA. He was also a veteran of the United States Marine Corps reserves.
At this time, no arrests have been made, and authorities have not identified any suspects in connection with Schwieterman’s death. The Mercer County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the case, seeking additional information to determine the circumstances that led to the fatal shooting.
