In the late afternoon of Sunday, January 21, 2024, a dispute between family members in a North Las Vegas residence tragically escalated, resulting in the death of 77-year-old Earnest Phillips, a Black male. Police were dispatched to the home located in the 3900 block of West Alexander Road around 4:30 p.m. following reports of gunfire. Upon their arrival, they discovered Mr.
Phillips suffering from a gunshot wound.
First responders at the scene attempted to render medical aid, but tragically, Earnest Phillips was pronounced dead. The Clark County coroner's office later confirmed his identity. Homicide detectives with the North Las Vegas Police Department have taken over the investigation into the shooting. Authorities have stated that they believe this was an isolated incident stemming from a familial dispute.
As the investigation into his death continues, no suspects have been publicly identified, and no arrests have been announced in connection with the shooting. Police have encouraged anyone with information to contact their department or to leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers. Earnest Phillips was originally from Louisiana and was a veteran of the United States Army. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, seven children, and twelve grandchildren.
