On December 23, 2023, 13-year-old Keon Young was fatally shot during a family cookout at the Cheyenne Villas apartment complex in North Las Vegas. Around 8 p.m., as Keon went to the parking lot to greet his father, assailants in a vehicle and another individual who jumped over a wall into the complex opened fire, striking Keon in the chest. Despite being transported to University Medical Center, he succumbed to his injuries.
