On June 19, 2023, at approximately midnight, Minneapolis police officers responded to reports of a shooting near the intersection of Dowling Avenue North and 6th Street North. Upon arrival, they discovered a vehicle that had crashed into a garage, with 24-year-old Omarai Nasir Engle of Fridley inside, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite immediate medical attention and transportation to North Memorial Health Hospital, Engle succumbed to his injuries shortly after 1 a.m.
