In the mid-afternoon of a Thursday in north Minneapolis, the life of 18-year-old Isaiah Khalel Goodwin, a Black male from Anoka, was cut short. On October 10, 2024, police responded to a report of gunfire just after 4 p.m. in the area of the 4200 block of Penn Avenue North. Their investigation led them to an alley on the 4200 block of Queen Avenue North, where they discovered Goodwin suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Despite any efforts by first responders, he died at the scene.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner later confirmed that the cause of death was multiple gunshot wounds, and the manner of death was homicide. A preliminary investigation by the Minneapolis Police Department suggests that Goodwin had been involved in an interaction with another man that tragically escalated into gunfire. Investigators have stated their belief that the fatal encounter may have occurred during an illegal narcotics deal gone wrong.
According to police statements, it is believed that Goodwin and the person who shot him were known to each other. It appears that after the shooting, Goodwin fled with the other man involved before he collapsed in the alley where he was later found. The suspected shooter was reportedly seen running from the area.
As of now, the investigation into Isaiah Goodwin's death is ongoing, and no arrests have been made. Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara acknowledged the senseless violence and expressed his confidence that investigators would work diligently to uncover the sequence of events and bring the person responsible to justice. Goodwin was noted as the 58th homicide victim in Minneapolis that year.
