In the early hours of a cold Wednesday morning, just two days before Christmas in 2020, the life of 23-year-old Keithshon Daquan Lamarr Fairley, a Black male from St. Paul, was tragically cut short in the Seward neighborhood of Minneapolis. Shortly before 1 a.m. on December 23, the sound of gunfire pierced the quiet of the 2000 block of 28th Avenue South.
When Minneapolis police officers arrived at the scene, they discovered Fairley inside a parked car, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
The officers quickly removed him from the vehicle and began performing CPR in a desperate attempt to save his life. Paramedics soon arrived and took over the life-saving efforts, but Fairley’s injuries were too severe. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office would later confirm that his death was a homicide caused by the gunshot wounds.
In the wake of the shooting, the Minneapolis Police Department opened an investigation into what was the city's 81st homicide of the year. Despite their efforts and public appeals for information, no arrests have been made in connection with Keithshon Fairley's death. Authorities have not publicly identified any suspects or released a potential motive for the crime that took the young man's life. The investigation remains open, leaving a family to grieve and a community searching for answers.
