Joan Katherine Foster Gianera, born on July 19, 1951, in Vienna, Austria, tragically lost her life on January 25, 1973, in Santa Cruz, California. Joan, along with her husband Jim Ralph Gianera, was a victim of the notorious serial killer Herbert Mullin. Mullin, who was a high school classmate of Jim, committed the heinous act by shooting and stabbing the couple at their home on Western Drive in Santa Cruz.
