In the winter of 2023, the life of Shawn Elmer Carter, a 45-year-old Black/African American man from Topeka, Kansas, was tragically cut short. On Sunday, January 8, 2023, Carter, affectionately known as "Heavy," was killed in a shooting, his death ruled a homicide.
