On the night of April 24, 2023, the life of Shawn Edward Lahman, a 44-year-old White/Caucasian male, was tragically cut short in Wichita, Kansas. Police were called to the 1300 block of South Edwards at approximately 11:20 p.m. for an unknown reason. Upon their arrival, they discovered Lahman in the front seat of a passenger van. He had sustained a gunshot wound to his upper torso and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Wichita Police Department immediately launched an investigation
into the homicide. It did not take long for detectives to zero in on a person of interest. Investigators learned that Lahman was acquainted with a man named Mickey Owens and that the two had been involved in an ongoing dispute. This information quickly made the 34-year-old from Johnson City, Kansas, the primary suspect in Lahman's death.
Following the identification of Owens as the suspect, law enforcement tracked him to Johnson City. He was taken into custody there on an unrelated warrant out of Sedgwick County. Following his arrest, Mickey Owens was charged with one count of first-degree murder and one count of criminal discharge of a firearm in connection with the shooting death of Shawn Lahman. He was held on a $750,000 bond, and his next court appearance was scheduled for May 15.
