On a tragic Labor Day afternoon in Wichita, Kansas, a bright and charismatic 20-year-old mixed-race male named Sebastian Williams lost his life. The afternoon of September 1, 2025, was shattered by violence when police were called to the 2100 block of North Arkansas around 4:33 p.m. following reports of a shooting. Arriving at the scene, officers discovered a vehicle in the 600 block of W.
20th Street North where they found Sebastian and another 20-year-old man inside, both suffering from gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical services, alongside the Wichita Fire Department and police officers, rendered immediate life-saving aid. Both young men were rushed to a local hospital in critical condition. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Sebastian Williams was pronounced deceased less than half an hour later, at 4:58 p.m. The second victim remained hospitalized with critical injuries. The fatal shooting was one of three separate deadly shootings that occurred in Wichita on that violent Labor Day, though authorities stated the incidents were not connected. Known affectionately as "Bash" to his friends and family, he was remembered as a loyal and supportive young man with an infectious grin and a passion for cooking, music, and video games.
The investigation into the homicide moved swiftly. The day after the shooting, Wichita police announced the arrest of a 16-year-old male on suspicion of felony murder. He was taken into custody and booked into the Sedgwick County Juvenile Intake and Assessment Center. The search for a second individual continued, and on September 19, the police department confirmed the arrest of a second suspect. This 17-year-old male was arrested at a home in the 1900 block of North Payne and was also booked into the juvenile detention facility on suspicion of felony murder. With the second arrest, police officials stated that they were not looking for any other suspects in connection with the case.
