On the evening of July 11, 2022, a drug transaction in south Wichita, Kansas, turned fatal for 19-year-old Donovan Graves. The male teenager was discovered deceased inside a vehicle at a QuikTrip gas station located at 47th Street South and Hydraulic, suffering from a gunshot wound. The events that led to his death began earlier at a mobile home in the 5200 block of South Clifton.
Graves, accompanied by two women, 19-year-old Lanita Baugh and 20-year-old Myrashia Griffin, had arranged to purchase a quarter-pound of marijuana for $450 from 20-year-old Brian Youngman. The deal was set up via social media by a 17-year-old associate of Youngman's, Nancy Miller.
The exchange took a violent turn when Graves produced a handgun in an attempt to rob Miller of the marijuana. In response to the robbery, Youngman drew his own firearm and shot Graves. After the shooting, Baugh and Griffin drove from the scene on South Clifton to the convenience store, where law enforcement was ultimately dispatched around 7:42 p.m. and found Graves lifeless. The subsequent investigation by the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office quickly unraveled the circumstances of the shooting, leading them from the gas station back to the mobile home where the incident occurred.
Authorities soon took four individuals into custody in connection with the deadly encounter. Brian Youngman was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. Lanita Baugh and Myrashia Griffin were also arrested and faced charges of first-degree murder and aggravated robbery. The 17-year-old, Nancy Miller, was arrested on suspicion of possession of marijuana with intent to sell. The legal process that followed saw resolutions for all involved. Brian Youngman was ultimately convicted of second-degree reckless murder and sentenced to nine years and three months in prison. Lanita Baugh pleaded guilty to aggravated robbery and attempted robbery, receiving a sentence of eight years in prison. Myrashia Griffin was sentenced to one year of probation after pleading guilty to attempted robbery. Nancy Miller, who was charged as an adult, pleaded guilty to attempted distribution of marijuana and received three years of probation.
