On the evening of January 1, 2023, what began as a new year in Shreveport, Louisiana, tragically ended with the city's first homicide. Jeremiah Kelly, a 19-year-old male, was discovered with multiple gunshot wounds at the Villa Norte Apartments located in the 1600 block of Fullerton Street. The initial call reporting the incident came in just after 6 p.m., prompting a swift response from emergency services.
Kelly was quickly transported to Ochsner LSU Health hospital in a struggle for
his life. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 7:06 p.m. The Caddo Parish Coroner's office later formally identified him, confirming his identity through fingerprint comparison. An autopsy was subsequently ordered to determine the precise cause and manner of death.
In a significant development in the case, a juvenile suspect turned himself in to the Shreveport Police Department shortly after the shooting occurred. While the juvenile is currently in custody, the investigation into Jeremiah Kelly's death remains active and ongoing. Authorities have encouraged anyone with additional information regarding the homicide to come forward and assist in the investigation.
