In the a.m. hours of March 3, 2021, the life of 21-year-old Kaylin Rashon Williams, a Black male, was tragically cut short in a drive-by shooting in Shreveport, Louisiana. The incident occurred in the 2800 block of an area near Ledbetter Street and Hollywood Avenue. Williams was inside a vehicle when he was struck by gunfire.
Shreveport Police were called to the scene to investigate the city's fifth homicide of the year.
Not long after the shooting, a vehicle arrived at a local hospital with Williams inside, suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries. The Caddo Parish Coroner’s office later publicly identified him.
The investigation into the murder of Kaylin Williams led Shreveport Police Department's Violent Crimes detectives to identify a suspect. On April 2, 2021, 19-year-old Ja'michael D. Bolds was arrested and charged with one count of second-degree murder. His bond was set at $500,000.
