In the small city of Opelousas, Louisiana, a life was cut short on a Wednesday evening in March. Xavier Bryant, a 22-year-old male, was fatally wounded by gunfire on March 15, 2023. The incident that claimed his life unfolded in the 800 block of Jerome Loop, a residential area within the community. Friends and family knew him by the nickname 'Doobie,' and he was anticipating the birth of his child.
The day after the shooting, local law enforcement announced an arrest in connection with
Bryant's death. Investigators identified 22-year-old Lentrell Gentress, also from Opelousas, as the suspect in the fatal shooting.
Gentress was taken into custody and booked into the St. Landry Parish Jail. He is facing serious charges, including one count of second-degree murder and one count of obstruction of justice, as the legal process following the violent death of Xavier Bryant begins.
