On a Wednesday night in Opelousas, Louisiana, the life of 15-year-old Kentravion George was tragically cut short. The African American male was walking with friends on North Main Street on November 2, 2022, when a vehicle approached, and shots were fired. Struck by the gunfire, the teenager was rushed to a local hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.
Raised by his grandmother, who considered him more like a son, Kentravion was a student at Opelousas Junior High School and was remembered by his family as a good child who did not deserve his violent end.
The investigation into the shooting quickly led Opelousas police to identify four suspects. Warrants were issued for 21-year-old Christopher Coleman, 21-year-old Daylan Wheeler, 22-year-old Desment Green, and 16-year-old Daqualon Robinson on charges of first-degree murder and assault by a drive-by shooting. Authorities suggested a possible motive, indicating that the shooting may have stemmed from jealousy, as George was walking with a girl who was the girlfriend of one of the alleged assailants.
Within days of the shooting, all four suspects were in custody. Three of the individuals, including the juvenile, turned themselves in to the police, while the fourth was apprehended through a joint effort by multiple sheriff's offices. A grand jury later indicted all four on charges of second-degree murder and obstruction of justice. In October 2025, Da'Qualon Robinson, who was 15 at the time of the incident, was convicted of second-degree murder and obstruction of justice. The murder conviction carries a mandatory sentence of life in prison with hard labor.
