In the early morning hours of Sunday, January 19, 2014, tragedy struck in the 900 block of Emma Street in Opelousas, Louisiana, when 28-year-old Jermaine Andrus was found shot in the street. He was rushed to the Opelousas General Health System, but succumbed to his injuries and entered eternal rest. The incident that cut short the life of the young man, known to friends and family as 'Che-Che,' was investigated by the Opelousas Police Department as a homicide.
The investigation into
Andrus's death quickly led to persons of interest. Initially, authorities were searching for 29-year-old John Q. Davis as a suspect in the weekend shooting. However, after being brought in for questioning, Davis was subsequently released. The focus of the investigation then shifted, leading to the arrest of another man.
A significant break in the case came with the arrest of 21-year-old Diovanni Lafountian, also of Opelousas. Lafountian was charged with the second-degree murder of Jermaine Andrus. Authorities stated that the apparent motive for the fatal shooting was robbery. While an arrest was made, investigators indicated that the case was not closed as they continued their work.
