A 22-year-old male named Jeremiah Miller was killed in a chilling episode that began to unfold in April 2002. Miller, who was reportedly from Opelousas, Louisiana, was entangled in the dangerous world of methamphetamine production. This involvement led him to Las Vegas with a substantial sum of money, twelve thousand dollars, with the intention of purchasing ephedrine, a key component in the manufacturing of the illicit drug.
He was lured to the city by a drug associate who had promised to facilitate the acquisition of the chemical.
Their meeting took place at the La Concha motel, a location on the iconic Las Vegas Strip, on April 18, 2002. It was there that Miller's life was brutally cut short. His associate, Scott Dozier, murdered him, likely by shooting. In a gruesome attempt to conceal the crime, Dozier dismembered Miller's body, placing the torso and other remains into a suitcase. This suitcase was later discarded in a dumpster at a nearby apartment complex in the western part of the city. A week after the murder, a maintenance worker at the apartment complex made the grim discovery of the suitcase containing Miller's mutilated body. Critically, Miller's head, hands, and feet were never recovered by investigators.
The investigation into Miller's murder quickly pointed towards Scott Dozier. Evidence revealed that following the murder, Dozier had gone on a spending spree with the twelve thousand dollars he had stolen from Miller, fabricating a story to his friends that he had won the money at a casino. On June 25, 2002, Dozier was apprehended by authorities in Phoenix, Arizona. His criminal activities were not limited to the murder of Jeremiah Miller; he was also connected to the killing of another individual, Jasen Green, in Arizona in 2001.
Dozier was tried for the murder of Jeremiah Miller, and in October 2007, a jury found him guilty and sentenced him to death. Despite the conviction and death sentence, Dozier would spend over a decade on death row. In a turn of events, before his execution could be carried out, Scott Dozier took his own life. He was found hanging in his prison cell in Ely, Nevada, on January 5, 2019. His death brought an end to a violent history that included multiple murders and a trail of devastation.
