In the late hours of a Sunday evening in Opelousas, Louisiana, the life of 21-year-old Malik A. White was tragically cut short. On July 16, 2023, White was a passenger in a vehicle near Scattered Acres Road and Interstate 49 when an unknown assailant opened fire on the car. The shooting, which occurred just after 11 p.m., resulted in injuries to all three occupants of the vehicle.
While two of the victims sustained injuries that were not considered life-threatening, White was gravely
wounded. He was quickly transported to a local hospital for medical attention. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Malik A. White succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. News of his passing marked another instance of gun violence in the community.
The St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office launched an investigation into the deadly shooting. Authorities have not yet released any information regarding a potential suspect or suspects in the ongoing case. As the investigation continues, law enforcement has urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward. In the wake of his death, friends and family gathered to remember the young man, with funeral services held the following Saturday at the Community Chapel Church of God In Christ in Opelousas.
