In the spring of 2023, the quiet of a Lafayette, Louisiana neighborhood was shattered by the sound of gunfire. On the evening of April 10th, police responded to reports of multiple shots fired in the 200 block of Sophie Street. Upon their arrival, they discovered a young man lying unresponsive in the roadway. The victim, a 23-year-old Black male named Kentrevon Gallien, was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
He was quickly transported to a local hospital, but tragically, he succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation into the homicide began immediately, with Lafayette Police Department investigators working to piece together the events that led to Gallien's untimely death. Their efforts soon focused on a person of interest, and just three days after the shooting, a significant breakthrough was made in the case. Detectives were able to identify and locate a suspect believed to be responsible for the fatal shooting.
On April 13, 2023, authorities arrested Bryson Broussard in connection with the death of Kentrevon Gallien. Broussard was subsequently charged with one count of second-degree murder for his alleged role in the incident. He was booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center as the investigation continued.
