Phillip Francis Jr., 44, a Black/African American man, was killed on Friday, August 22, 2025, after gunfire erupted during an argument at the WoodSpring Suites on the 200 block of Hugh Wallis Road in Lafayette, Louisiana. Officers were called around mid-afternoon and found Francis dead at the scene. Investigators said the confrontation between two men escalated quickly into violence inside the hotel setting, turning a routine day into a sudden tragedy for Francis’s family and friends.
