In the quiet evening of May 24, 2023, tragedy struck in Shreveport, Louisiana, forever altering the life of 72-year-old Eddie Lee Rogers. Just after 9:10 p.m., Mr. Rogers was discovered outside his home in the 1800 block of David Raines Road, suffering from a single, devastating gunshot wound to his abdomen. Emergency services were quick to respond, transporting him to Ochsner LSU Health hospital in a desperate attempt to save his life.
Despite their efforts, he was pronounced deceased shortly after arrival at 9:19 p.m. His death was officially ruled as the 29th homicide in Shreveport and Caddo Parish for that year.
The Shreveport Police Department immediately launched an investigation into the senseless act of violence that claimed the life of the elderly man. With no witnesses to the shooting, the case initially presented a significant challenge for law enforcement. However, a crucial breakthrough came in the form of a tip submitted through Caddo Crime Stoppers. This piece of information pointed investigators in the direction of a suspect, leading them to 27-year-old Reginald Roberson.
Following an investigation, Reginald Roberson was arrested and charged in connection with the death of Eddie Lee Rogers. Rather than proceeding to a trial, Roberson ultimately pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of manslaughter in Caddo District Court. The plea and subsequent sentencing were coordinated with and approved by Mr. Rogers' family. As a result of his guilty plea, Reginald Roberson was sentenced to 30 years in prison for his role in the tragic and untimely death of Eddie Lee Rogers.
