On June 18, 2023, in Plain Dealing, Louisiana, Melissa Powell was fatally shot during a domestic altercation. The incident occurred just before midnight in the 100 block of South Louisiana Street. According to reports, Ronnie L. Bryant, identified as the suspect, shot Powell in the neck while they were in a car. Following the shooting, Bryant contacted a Plain Dealing police officer to seek help for Powell. She was transported to Ochsner Medical Center, where she succumbed to her injuries.
