In the warm evening of June 26, 2023, the life of 30-year-old Samjarrar Amie, a Black/African American male, was tragically cut short in Shreveport, Louisiana. The fatal encounter unfolded in the parking lot of the Riverdale Apartments, situated in the 6800 block of Rasberry Lane. Shortly after 8:45 p.m., the sound of gunfire shattered the evening calm. When the authorities arrived, they found Amie suffering from a gunshot wound.
He was quickly transported to LSU Ochsner Health Shreveport in a desperate attempt to save his life. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, he was pronounced dead at 9:26 p.m. Another individual was also injured during the incident.
The investigation into Amie's death led to the identification of a suspect, 15-year-old Demarcus Antonio June Jr. The case was brought before a Caddo Parish grand jury, which subsequently indicted the teenager on serious charges. June Jr. is facing one count of second-degree murder for the death of Samjarrar Amie and an additional count of attempted second-degree murder related to the other person who was wounded in the shooting.
In the wake of this violent act, family and friends gathered to mourn the loss of Samjarrar Amie. Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 8, 2023, at the Zion Baptist John H. Wilson Chapel. His final resting place is the Oak Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. A visitation was held the day prior at Heavenly Gates Funeral Home in Shreveport, allowing the community to pay their respects and offer condolences to a family grappling with a sudden and profound loss.
