In the late hours of a Thursday in Shreveport, Louisiana, the life of 23-year-old Kaleah Aiyanna Graham was tragically cut short. On November 16, 2023, Graham, a Black female, was a passenger in a vehicle traveling southbound in the 7800 block of Jewella Avenue. Alongside her was 24-year-old Jessie Ashley. As they made their way down the street, another vehicle pulled up beside them and unleashed a hail of gunfire in their direction.
The sudden and violent attack left both Graham and
Ashley with fatal injuries. First responders arrived at the scene to a grim discovery, and both were pronounced dead right there on Jewella Avenue. The incident sent shockwaves through the community, marking the 75th and 76th homicides in Caddo Parish for the year. The Caddo Parish Coroner's Office ordered autopsies to be performed on both victims to officially determine the cause of death.
In the wake of the devastating drive-by shooting, the Shreveport Police Department launched an investigation into the double homicide. As of now, the investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have not publicly identified any suspects or made any arrests in connection with the deaths of Kaleah Aiyanna Graham and Jessie Ashley. The community mourned the loss of the two young lives, with funeral services for Graham held on Saturday, November 25, 2023, at Bethel #1 Baptist Church. She was laid to rest at the Bethel #2 Baptist Church Cemetery. The search for answers and justice for Kaleah and Jessie continues as their families and friends await a break in the case.
