In the summer of 2021, the life of 28-year-old Shameika Danielle Robison was tragically cut short in Shreveport, Louisiana. On June 5th, she was found deceased inside her apartment at the Southport Apartments, the victim of fatal gunshot wounds. The initial investigation quickly pointed to a domestic violence situation, with suspicion falling upon her boyfriend.
The day after the discovery of Robison's body, authorities arrested Benjamin Franklin in connection with her death. He was initially charged with second-degree murder. Further investigation revealed a chilling motive behind the violent act. Franklin was also a suspect in an armed robbery of a Circle K convenience store that had occurred in May of that year. It came to light that he had shot Robison multiple times to prevent her from potentially identifying him as the perpetrator of the robbery.
In March 2024, Benjamin Franklin stood trial for the murder of Shameika Robison. During the legal proceedings, evidence was presented showing that Robison had been shot twenty times. Franklin's defense team entered a plea of not guilty by reason of insanity. However, this claim was contested by a state medical expert who testified during the trial. After considering all the evidence, the jury found Benjamin Franklin guilty of the murder of his former girlfriend. As a result of the conviction, he faces a mandatory sentence of life in prison.
