In the small city of Rayne, Louisiana, a tragic story unfolded in early December 2023, culminating in the death of 20-year-old Darren Seth Senegal. The young man, born in the neighboring city of Crowley, was found deceased on December 4, 2023, near the railroad tracks on the Mervine Kahn Extension. An investigation determined that Senegal had died from multiple gunshot wounds.
The initial investigation led Rayne Police to identify two individuals believed to be involved in the shooting.
As the inquiry progressed, authorities named 18-year-old Jamyrion Jaquan Senegal of Crowley as a primary suspect in what they now considered a homicide. Complicating the narrative, Jamyrion is the cousin of the victim, Darren Senegal. Police also indicated the involvement of a 16-year-old as a suspected co-conspirator in the crime. An arrest warrant was issued for Jamyrion, charging him with one count of second-degree murder and one count of criminal conspiracy.
After being on the run for nearly a month, Jamyrion Senegal was apprehended on Christmas Day. Officers executed multiple warrants in Rayne, where they located him in an apartment with several other people. At the time of his arrest, authorities also seized illegal drugs and multiple illegally modified firearms. Jamyrion Senegal was subsequently booked on a number of charges, including second-degree murder, criminal conspiracy, and various firearm and drug offenses. It was reported that Jamyrion had a prior criminal record, having previously faced five counts of attempted murder which were pleaded down to battery, for which he served two years of probation. Police have stated that additional arrests are anticipated for individuals who may have assisted him while he was evading law enforcement.
